Voices of 1968

In November of 2018, WAP commissioned TAHIRA, a renowned storyteller and poet, to capture the stories of 1968 from the Wilmington communities. TAHIRA has toured Wilmington and beyond with her performance Unbroken Spirit: The Siege of 1968 Wilmington, during which many members of the community active and present during the 1968 occupation approached to her with their unique and personal accounts of what happened. Partnering with Voices of 1968, an oral history project organized by Rebecca Johnson Melvin and John Caldwell, Special Collections Librarians at UD, TAHIRA and David Kim recorded three interviews. Gathered here are the edited versions. Full interviews, as well as many more accounts by other activists and organizers, visit the UD Special Collections
